Gua Sha and the ZoneFaceLift
If you are a fan of Instagram, you’ll have noticed that Gua Sha has become very popular recently and it’s easy to see why. Working from home last year gave us all a rare opportunity to spend a little more time on our home skincare. With therapists’ doors closed the DIY approach was the only way forward.
Using Gua Sha, as I do in the ZoneFaceLift ™ leaves skin with a luminous complexion that looks like you’ve been on holiday and midway during a course of ZoneFaceLift ™ friends ask if you’ve had ‘work done’ on your face (but that’s another story!) Gua Sha is naturally relaxing as it uses beautiful, flowing and rhythmic strokes which stimulate facial reflexology points. This means that stagnant energy is removed and good circulation and balance promoted.
Although Gua literally means scraping, it’s a gentle and far less intense technique than Body Gua Sha. It sculpts and lifts your facial muscles and naturally boosts the elastin and collagen in your skin. This leads to a wonderful reduction in fine lines and wrinkles by easing muscle tension.
A brighter, contoured, fresher and more radiant complexion will result as lymph drainage is activated. The detoxifying process will help with blocked sinuses, your eyes will appear refreshed and your stressed or tired skin soothed. Gua Sha helps to prevent acne, pigmentation and dark circles under your eyes. Gua Sha is effective for everyone and all skin types. It’s convenient too, as you can do it in the shower or on the couch in front of the TV. It’s easy, pleasant and a great addition to your self-care routine.
How to perform Gua Sha
You’ll need a Gua Sha stone to practice the technique and a few drops of facial oil which you should press into your cleansed skin to provide slip. (You don’t want to drag your stone over your skin as this will damage your skin). Once you’ve applied oil to your face, you are ready to go. Just move the stone outwards and upwards, keeping it flat against your skin and following the directions in the diagram below. Use medium pressure on chin and jaw. Be gentle around youreyes. Repeat each stroke between 5-10 times. Keep the stone flat against your skin and go gently.
Clean Gua Sha thoroughly with soap and water.
