How to Love Your Liver
Let’s celebrate your body’s superhero, the liver, which plays a crucial part in supporting your overall vitality – something I’ve been talking about a lot recently!
Your liver performs a multitude of housekeeping tasks (around 500!) that keep your body running smoothly. Those tasks include detoxification, metabolism regulation and hormone balance.
Poor liver health can affect weight, energy levels, digestion, circulation, bone and skin health. However, when we give our liver some extra love and attention, we support these processes which can also help decrease menopausal symptoms.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) meridians are vertical lines running through the body which penetrate deep into all organs – including the liver – and tissue. They also carry blood and energy. If energy (known as qi – pronounced chee) stagnates, depletes or becomes excessive it causes an imbalance in the body and you may feel out of sorts or ill.
According to TCM, the liver is at its most active between 1and 3am. This is when it’s working hard to detoxify and cleanse your body. If you’re waking up during that time, it indicates disrupted liver energy. You may well be experiencing sore eyes, daytime sleepiness, restless legs, feel unable to cope, may have felt angry or even suppressed your anger.
How you can support your liver:
- Avoid or reduce alcohol and spicy, rich or processed foods
- Drink a glass of warm water first thing
- Exercise
- Ditch Netflix and gadgets and enjoy regular early nights
- Create a beautiful bedtime routine/ritual
- Book a reflexology session
As a reflexologist when I work on the micro liver through your feet, my intention is to give it a thorough spring clean. This really helps your busy, nocturnal liver to do all of its jobs effectively and helps you to relax and enjoy restorative sleep, leading to balance and equilibrium.
Why not give your liver the TLC it deserves by booking in for your next reflexology treatment here:
Wishing you wellness and harmony within.
