Reflexology is a natural holistic therapy which works on the principle that reflexes in our feet, hands (and face and ears) correspond to the organs, structures and systems within our bodies. When we are fit and well energy flows freely throughout the body but stagnates when we are ill or stressed. Physical or emotional symptoms may then arise. By stimulating the reflex points on the feet, the body’s natural healing mechanisms are activated and can help to bring it back into a state of natural balance.
Reflexology can be received by anyone from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care and everyone in between. However, there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment.
Reflexology may help with:
- headaches and migraines
- back pain
- peri menopause
- skin problems
- hay fever / asthma
What happens during a treatment?
Your first treatment will be a little longer than subsequent treatments as a full medical history will be taken. You’ll also be asked to sign a confidential consent form before the treatment takes place. You will need to remove your socks and shoes and will be seated on a couch or reclining chair. A blanket will be offered to you for your comfort.
I will use my hands to apply pressure to the feet and lower legs and you may feel some fleeting discomfort during the treatment. This may indicate an imbalance in the body. Many people fall asleep during the session and find the experience relaxing and have a sense of well-being afterwards. You may experience a mild healing reaction afterwards as the body rebalances and rids itself of unwanted toxins this is quite normal but can be alleviated by drinking plenty of water and avoiding strenuous activity afterwards.
It would be beneficial if you could relax, avoid alcohol and heavy meals for 24 hours and drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins.
